Review: Tea Cellar – Park Hyatt

Park Hyatt Hotel

I’ve been fortunate and adventurous enough to experience afternoon or high tea in different cultures and parts of the world. As I understand it the difference between the two may be the time, setting or items. The history of the two types of tea service may also be associated with various societal classes.

I am a tea and nosh lover so for me its just another excuse to get together with friends or alone to enjoy a lovely cup of tea with delicious nosh and conversation.

Although somewhat of a dull exterior the Park Hyatt has very modern interior setting which I love. No lace  or table cloths here and self service style. The Tea Cellar is pretty much an extension of a dinning area in that there is no dedicated Cellar area so there is really no seclusion. The noise level also floats over to the tea area too. This soon becomes a small issue when you sample the offerings.

So when seated you are able to review the tea menu which list a range from $8 to over $300 per pot. LT and I both ordered our own pots but realized that it would have been better to share a pot. Neither of us where able to finish our selections. So my recommendation is to share the cost and select a higher priced pot if interested. See the menu here.

LT and I grabbed a table across from the tea prep area. Our server did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed and made a particular recommendation of the Genmiatcha tea. Although I had every intention of getting around to her suggestion, as I mentioned, I was unable to finish the Blood Orange Green. I will be sure to try this next time.

There where about 7 savory and 7 sweet choices plus soup and everything was very good. I really can’t decide which was my favorite but I especially enjoyed the smoked salmon, crab and chocolate mouse.

Although not as intimate as I hoped,  it was very fresh and well prepared. I prefer more emphasis on the presentation instead of a self service. The dress code is very informal.

Parking can be tough but there are meters close by. Valet was $10.
