Brixton – British Influence in DC

901 U Street NW

Saturday a few friends and I decided to head to Brixton for happy hour drinks and nosh which actually turned into dinner as well. Brixton is a somewhat newcomer in that I think its been open for a year or less. Located on the busy corner of 9th & U Brixton is three stories high including the rooftop deck that’s open year round.

The first level is fairly large, dominated by the bar and has a very bar like setting. The middle floor is more secluded  also has a large bar and seating more suitable for dining with 2 fireplaces and leather sofa’s for lounging. Then the rooftop has 2 bars on either side of the floor with plenty of stools and standing area. Very laid back feeling, large by DC standards and tastefully done with exposed brick and wood.

Now I’ve not spent  much time in London but one thing we all know is that British food is not very exciting. Mostly fish and chips and curry’s. Well, don’t sleep on Brixton because the food was pretty good and everyone was happy in our party of 7. They have what you’d expect, fish, chips and curry but also what you might not. Take a look at the menu here.

So we started on the rooftop for happy hour and they do have drink special’s even on Saturday so this was very nice. At 5pm the middle floor opened so we moved downstairs and grabbed some tables with a great view of the buzz on the street below.

Take a look at the pics below. As I mentioned, no one in our party was disappointed with their dish. Everything was fresh, well prepared and presentation was nice. The servers were very attentive and kept the new plates coming fast and furious.  I recommend this spot for drinks or dinner, even lounging. Very nice atmosphere for a date, groups or solo. Cheers!
